Quercetin is in the news again for its benefit against C-19. This positive news is welcome by people looking for natural ways to support immunity since many experts believe some variant form of C-19 will remain indefinitely. People are looking for protection beyond current governmental recommendations. (The C-19 problem refers to the issue that America and the world have been dealing with since 2019. You may be wondering why I am writing in this type of code?

Well, it has not only been a strange time for the public but also for doctors, particularly integrative doctors. All doctors are warned not to recommend natural or pharmaceutical treatments to the public that the CDC and FDA do not endorse for the C-19 problem. This has been a change since licensed doctors have always had the ability to prescribe what they want, assuming it is not dangerous and proven to benefit patients’ health and bell-being.

I feel it is important to share what research is demonstrating can be helpful with the C-19 problem and what I recommend to my patients.)

This new study was published in the scientific journal life. The study involved 3 months of supplementation with Quercetin Phytosome®, a form of quercetin that is up to 20 times more absorbable than regular quercetin, 60 people were given Quercetin Phytosome®, while another 60 people were given a placebo. The participants were given C-19 diagnostic tests every 3 weeks. At the 5-month mark, the risk of infection was 99.8% for those who supplemented quercetin compared to 96.5% in the control group. The authors noted that those who supplemented quercetin had a protection factor of 14% more not to contract the C-19 infection than those given placebo.

Another noteworthy result of the study was that for the one person supplementing quercetin who was infected with C-19, there was complete clinical remission at 7 days compared to 15 days for the 4 people in the placebo group who contracted C-19.

Quercetin Mechanisms

The authors of the study discussed the antiviral and anti-C-19 properties of quercetin. In summary, they cited research reporting that quercetin had the following multiple benefits against C-19:

  • Alters the expression of 98 human genes that potentially interferes with functions of viral proteins in human cells
  • Inhibits viral enzymes that are needed for viral replication
  • Makes it more difficult for the C-19 spike protein to attach to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2) receptors on the cells. ACE2 receptors are the cell receptors that C-19 uses to enter the host cell
  • Anti-inflammatory activity. Possibly inhibits the cytokine-storm which causes respiratory distress and organ failure in C-19 patients
  • Supports the elimination of senescent cells (cells that stop dividing and interfere with regular cell activity by continuing inflammation and tissue damage) that help reduce C-19 symptoms

Additional Research

Quercetin Phytosome® has been shown in previous studies to be effective in treating C-19. I have reported on these landmark studies at www.americasnaturaldoctor.com. A paper by the mainstream journal nature also reported the effectiveness of Quercetin Phytosome®The author’s state:

Collective analysis of all 194 patients concluded that the quercetin-treated group showed significant risk reductions regarding the needs of hospitalization and oxygen therapy compared to standard care, particularly in terms of length of hospitalization, referral to the intensive care unit and number of deaths.
