We have a great episode planned for you today and will cover “The Holidays” & Our Digestion.
Joining us today is Naturopathic Practitioner, Jane Jansen of the Tree of Life Wellness Center in Massachusetts. Jane has the unique perspective as a medical professional who, prior to becoming a naturopathic practitioner, spent years in Radiology and Ultrasound doing research and performing tests on patients with varying types of health problems.
We look forward all year to family traditions enjoying our favorite recipes for food, beverages and treats during the holidays. Traveling to see friends and family or hosting special events. But during the holidays our digestive systems can take a beating.
But let’s be real, most of the daily habits that keep our digestion healthy during the year, get put on hold during the holidays. Over-indulging, staying up late, and stress physically and emotionally is part of most holidays as there are so many things to do!
So, what do practitioners recommend to keep our digestive system balanced, yet still be able to enjoy the rich treats this holiday season?
According to Jane Jahnsen, a Naturopathic practitioner, I often advise my patients to practice moderation and balance their holiday food and drink choices, On the actual holiday don’t worry about enjoying yourself, unless you have specific health concerns that your doctor says otherwise. But don’t give yourself excuses to overindulge every day leading up to or every day after the holiday. That includes food, treats, and beverages. Be mindful of becoming over stressed, or not sleeping well too. Your body talks to you all the time, listening to it and it will tell you when you, and your microbiome, are out of balance.
