Most people think of supporting bone density with nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, K2, and others. However, there is exciting new research on the phytonutrient known as resveratrol and its’ benefit for bone density for postmenopausal women.

What Foods Have Resveratrol?

Resveratrol is found in the peels of grapes and berries such as blueberries, raspberries, mulberries, red wine, and peanuts. This phytonutrient exhibits anti-aging effects and benefits for the body’s cardiovascular, immune, blood sugar balancing, and nervous systems.

Resveratrol and Bone Density

A recent study investigated the effects of resveratrol and bone density in postmenopausal women. The study was 24 months in length and was high-quality, being a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover investigation. The study looked at the effects of 75 mg of resveratrol taken twice daily and the effects on various health parameters, including bone density. The researchers reported the effects on bone metabolism and density in this report. The authors concluded that resveratrol supplementation significantly improved bone metabolism as measured with urinary markers (CTX) and bone density imaging of the lumbar spine and femoral (hip) neck. The authors theorize that resveratrol supports bone density by improving microcirculation which helps osteoblasts responsible for bone formation.

Feed Your Bones Healthy Nutrients

Resveratrol is a supplement to consider for postmenopausal women with reduced bone density. I also use our Bone Plusvitamin D3 with K2, and Silica Wellness for patients needing an aggressive nutrient protocol.
